OSTİM TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY DOUBLE MAJOR PRINCIPLES AND PROCEDURES
2023/110
Pursuant to Article 44 of Law No. 2547, the “Regulation on Transfer Between Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, Minor, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfers in Higher Education Institutions,” and the resolutions of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the principles and procedures for double major programs at OSTİM Technical University are outlined below:
1-QUOTA
a) Based on the recommendation of the relevant department and the faculty/school boards, and subject to Senate approval, double major programs and their quotas may be established between associate degree programs and between undergraduate degree programs within the University.
2-APPLICATION & EVALUATION CALENDAR
a) The application and evaluation calendar for double major programs and their quotas are determined by the University Senate in accordance with the principles set by YÖK and are published on the University website.
b) Admission to the second major program is subject to the recommendation of the relevant department and approval of the faculty/school board where the program is offered.
3-ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
a) Undergraduate students may apply to a second major at the earliest in the third semester and at the latest in the fifth semester. Associate degree students may apply at the earliest in the second semester and at the latest in the third semester.
b) Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 70 out of 100 (equivalent to 2.72 on a 4.0 scale as per YÖK’s grading conversion chart).
c) Students must rank within the top 20% of their cohort in terms of academic performance. Students whose GPA is sufficient but who are not in the top 20% may still apply if their university entrance exam score is equal to or above the base score required by the second major program in that academic year.
d) For English-medium programs, students must meet the University’s English proficiency requirements.
e) Applicants must not have received any disciplinary sanctions.
f) Applications will be evaluated by calculating 60% of the student’s cumulative GPA and 40% of the university entrance exam (YKS) score from the year of enrollment.
g) Dikey Geçiş Sınavı (DGS) ile yerleşen (Mühendislik programları dahil) öğrenciler başarı sırası şartı bulunan programlarda (Mühendislik Fakültesi) çift anadal yapamazlar.
h) Students who do not meet the YKS success ranking requirement cannot apply for double majors in programs where such a requirement is in place.
ı) Students admitted through international quotas or via international transfer who do not meet the required YKS rankings may not pursue double majors in programs that require a success ranking.
i) Faculties or vocational schools may set additional specific requirements.
4-OTHER PROVISIONS
a) All regulations and decisions by YÖK and provisions of Law No. 2547 apply to this process.
b) Tuition and fees are governed by OSTİM Technical University’s Scholarship and Discount Regulations. Students enrolled in double major programs are subject to course-based tuition fees (based on ECTS) after the standard period of study in their primary major.
c) In order to graduate with a double major, students must fulfill the full 240 ECTS credit requirement for both majors, including shared and general elective courses. Admission, course equivalency, course withdrawals, academic decisions, and examination procedures are under the authority of the respective faculty/school boards.
d) Students who complete their primary major but not the second major must complete the second major within the maximum duration specified in Article 44/c of Law No. 2547, starting from the academic year they enrolled in the second major.
